More Than Cowardice in Uvalde School Massacre
I do not accept the popular theory currently that it was just a case of mass cowardice that led the police to delay entry into that classroom in Uvalde leaving 19 children to be slaughtered. When bad things happen there's usually an explanation. When the absurd occurs, the explanation most likely may not be the most likely explanation.
For me it starts with a photo of Chief Pete Arredondo:
Look closely at his left arm. See those stripes? Each one represents 5 years of service. Hard to see but it looks to me to be at least 5, maybe 6. That means this officer had 25-30 years experience as a law enforcement agent. Three decades on the force and he screws up, not in normal fashion but so extraordinarily that it borders on the absurd. He decided to handle the situation as a barricaded perpetrator when clearly, in every way it simply was not so. Why was it not so?
First, ok it was a barricaded perpetrator but that perpetrator was not some guy holed up in his home trying to avoid a warrant for failure to show at a trial hearing. He was an unknown individual who was barricaded but along with 19 children around him and was firing shots. I'm sure Arredondo heard the messages from the 911 operators stating they were receiving numerous calls from inside the room stating the shooter was firing and that some where already dead! Now as you don't need to have a degree in meteorology to know which way the wind blows you don't need to be a cop to see the possibilities of what was occurring inside. There is also the fact that schools have become prime targets for the nation's vast array of lunatics. In diagnosing what was going on why didn't the chief start with the worst scenario, that children were in imminent danger then with the thought it was a less severe case of a barricaded perp? It borders on the absurd.
Now you have 18 other cops alongside of him. I find it hard to imagine that not one of them realized that their boss was not grasping the severity of the situation and not one thought to defy orders and try to make it into the classroom? Collective cowardice yes but also seemingly bizarre!
Then there's the fact that some police officers charged into the school, grabbed they're kids and ran out with them. That part is almost as sickening to think of as the inaction of the 19 officers outside the schoolroom
Maybe we will get to know all the answers to our questions to what really happened that day but at this time the actions of the Uvalde Police Department bypass cowardice and border on the bizarre. A top down investigation of the whole department including each officer should be performed with extreme meticulousness. God knows what they will find
