Question Everything: The Stats From South Africa Regarding Omicron Are Leading Us To the Graveyard

 

No attempts at eloquence here. Relying on the statistics from South Africa regarding the current Omicron variant will be a boon to funeral directors and grave diggers worldwide. Everyone, even white supremist are expressing great confidence that the numbers coming out of Africa is solid as a rock and should be the guide for responding (or not) to the Omicron virus. But there are at least 2 caveats to using South Africa as a model.

1. Every imbecile with an internet connection and basic knowledge of the alphabet point out how less severe their numbers are coming in. 99% are calling it no worse than the cold. "LOOK", they type in capital letters, " look how few people are on ventilator, LOOK HOW FEW DEATHS THERE ARE!". On and on as if their mail order epidemiology degree just came in the mail. Now you cannot argue with facts especially if you don't know the entire story. Some try to counter that the population of Africa is much younger than most other countries thus less at risk for severe effects from the Omicron Variant.

But now I ask myself " Why is the population so much younger in Africa? Does that make it true the virus is much, much milder than we figure? What I came up was with:

Of course, the rate of death in Africa is lower. ALL THE OLD PEOPLE ESEPCIALLY ANYONE WITH ANY COMORBIDITIES ARE DEAD! The first wave of Covid went through Africa like a buzzsaw. It took out the old and sick at rates that were incredible. THERE ARE NOT MANY LEFT FOR THE OMICRON VARIANT TO KILL. There was a 27% vaccination rate in Africa what do you think happened? By the time Omicron got there all who would have died were resting comfortably already. And the many younger people that survived, well they gained a natural immunity. 

To underscore what I'm saying is a tweet by Dr. Eric Ting where he compared the difference between severe illness between Omicron and the original Covid virus. What he found was the Omicron beat Covid in terms of severity and death

This tells us that the Omicron variant, while of less severity was still more virulent than the Original covid.

But folks will still point to the info coming out South Africa as proof that the virus is mild

Another thing they point to as proof is that there has only been one death due to/with covid not realizing that severity and death statistics lag behind data like test results. STOP WITH THE IMMEDIATE GRATIFICTION THING! Give PEOPLE A CHANCVE TO DIE! Most don't do it willingly and will fight death tooth and nail. Plus, with all this interference from medicine sometimes it takes longer.

So, again people are going to die but not on your schedule. Be a bit patient. Not everything has to be rushed
