Thoughts Out Of Season

Lord Byron's beautiful poem opens with the line "She walks in beauty like the night', one of the most beautiful sentences I have ever read. But oh, how I wish he had used "silence" instead of beauty, thus  " She walks in silence like the night" which gives such a more haunting image.

 

  For those who are looking to point fingers at those responsible for the Texas school shooting save the middle finger for the US system that tolerates outright bribery in the name of Lobbying Political Officials. A lobbyist is a professional whose job is advocating for a particular cause for a client or individual. These people have direct and frequent contact with the politicians who run our government. And they come with pockets full of cash to help their cause along. Practically every large corporation employs lobbyists to advocate for their business and loads of cash to grease the road to legislation that is interest to his/her client. Lobbying is a 9 billion industry in the United States Take the NRA for example. Like a ghetto building has roaches does the NRA have lobbyists and they will throw money around like drunk men at a topless joint.  I do not accept the popular theory currently that it was just a case of mass cowardice that led the police to delay entry into that classroom in Uvalde leaving 19 children to be slaughtered. When bad things happen there's usually an explanation. When the absurd occurs, the explanation most likely may not be the most likely explanation. For me it starts with a photo of Chief Pete Arredondo: Look closely at his left arm. See those stripes? Each one represents 5 years of service. Hard to see but it looks to me to be at least 5, maybe 6. That means this officer had 25-30 years experience as a law enforcement agent. Three decades on the force and he screws up, not in  normal fashion but so extraordinarily that it borders on the absurd. He decided to handle the situation as a barricaded perpetrator when clearly, in every way it simply was not so. Why was it not so?   It is with a very heavy heart and a gnawing sense of anger that I report the tragedy of 21 children and 2 adults have been massacred in a school shooting Uvalde, Texas. Apparently a deranged 18-year-old walked into the school indiscriminately shooting students between the ages of 6 and 9 years old. Police, including Border Patrol units nearby killed the shooter as he barricaded himself in a room. Apparently, the suspect shot and critically wounded his grandmother before going on the rampage. Reactions has been swift with people all over the world sending condolence's and the ever present "sending thoughts and prays" which after so many past school massacres ring hollow as the inevitable government response that "something has got to be done". Nothing ever is.  And every year or so the same damn thing happens and the same damn bullshit rides again and again nothing is done.
